Ucon Gustav Hoody

28 04 2010

Yeah yeah, I know, summers around the corner. That doesn’t mean you can’t still be on the lookout for fly winter wear. Besides, some of you I’m sure may be in parts of the globe that’s still cool enough for hoodies. In any event the Gustav  by Ucon is defiantly on my must have list for next winter.

M.I.A. Born Free Video

27 04 2010

I heard the song a few days ago and blogged about it, now the official video release. This has got to be one of the coolest videos I have ever seen, definitely NSFW though. Director by Romain Gavras pulls no punches, with this extremely graphic 9 min. short film.

I should tell you that the video is really violent and potentially disturbing to some, and not really what one might expect from the Sri Lankan party girl, well-documented family ties to the Tamil Tigers aside. But despite the content, it never feels gratuitous. If anything it’s an artistic statement, check it out.

N.E.R.D. – Hot N Fun (feat. Nelly Furtado)

24 04 2010

Speaking of back off of hiatus, N.E.R.D. gears up to drop their new effort which was originally slated to be called “Instant Gratification”. After completely scraping 20 sum odd songs, siting they weren’t saying enough, and they didn’t have the right feeling. They Also changed the name to Nothing, no that’s the name, “Nothing”.

For your listening and viewing pleasures, I present a 2 for 1. Frist, Pharrell speaks on his daily life a bit, and brushes up against the subject of the new release and subsequent name change. The second, there first single “Hot n Fun” featuring Nelly Furtado. Looking forward to the release.

M.I.A. – Born Free

24 04 2010

After a long hiatus, new mother and probably the hottest commodity out of Sri Lanka, M.I.A. is back with a new single. Born Free is crazy, an uptempo, bass heavy masterpiece. Dubbed the “Original Lady Gaga” M.I.A. was last seen, by me at least, on stage preforming a full 9 months pregnant and due.

In her absence, her label mate, the aforementioned Lady Gaga has been more than busy with her music, entrepreneurial ventures (the heart beat headphones) and gay rights activism. After M.I.A. called  her out publicly, it was time to put her money where her mouth was and drop some new stuff. This is from her upcoming album due out later this year.

Nike SB Dunk High “Skunks” 420 Release Window Display

21 04 2010

Today is perhaps my favorite holiday next to Christmas, too bad it’s not nationally recognized. So it’s only fitting that my favorite brand of shoe drop a pair of limited edition kicks to commemorate to day and it’s festivities. The Nike SB Dunk High “Skunks” have been on the web for a few days now but when I came across this creative display by Maven

The Burlington, VT. retailer cleared out it’s old window display and revamped it to resemble a grow room for nature’s greatest plant. Aluminum line the back of the window, lamps hang from the ceiling cranked up extra bright to ad to the authenticity …and of course, the green Nike Sb Dunk High “Skunks”.They  hang from the  plants like the frosted treats that would naturally adorn a ripe and ready crop, blending  into the plant quite seamlessly. Check out the window display, and then check with your local retailers on the release that is set to happen at select stores. Happy 420.

Jean-Michel Basquiat x Reebok – Spring/Summer 2010 Lookbook

20 04 2010

In memory of  international art star, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Reebok has teamed up with the estate of the late artist once again to create the Spring/Summer ’10 Jean-Michel Basquiat Pack. Basquiat started as a graffiti writer in New York, and the latest edition from Reebok takes inspiration from one of his often untitled works (Suite of Fourteen Drawings) circa 1981. Graham Thompson calls Basquiat, “the first painter of African descent to become an international art icon”, with such works as “Untitled (History of the Black People)”  in 1983, and “Irony of Negro Policeman” (1981). The limited collection will include several Reebok staples – Omni Pump Lite, BB4600 Hi, and WMNS Pump Aerobic Lite Trainer Mid. Also, a matching matching graphic tee will go along with each pair. A combination of perforated leather, fabric and gum rubber sole, the Jean-Michel Basquiat x Reebok Omni Pump Lite is now available at select Reebok retailers.
